Father's Day Commission - Son

The portrait of the son is nearly complete so I will move onto the father and come back near completion. The hairline needs to be softened, the chin is a bit too pointy and his right eyebrow needs a bit of work. The eyes look very dark online but in the original portrait they blend in nicely but add sharp contrast.

Father's Day Commission - Father & Son Outline

This is the rough sketch of the father with his son. There is still much to be done to bring life to the portrait. The eyes already twinkle even at this stage. The eyes are my favorite part of the portrait to draw, I used to spend hours just drawing eyes :) My teachers used to think it was a waste of time but I think it was time very well spent!

Father's Day Commission Sketch

This is a mockup using two reference photos that I will be doing a Father's Day commission for. I am really excited as the photos are just awesome both in quality and the character and emotion that has been captured. I honestly can't stop smiling everytime I look at it already, I think it is going to be really sweet :)
The portrait in total will be 18 x 24 which will be really great as well as I will be able to capture so much detail. I started on the outline sketch today so hopefully will have an update tomorrow!

Annual May Day Show with ArtFocus

The May Day show was a great success and we all had alot of fun. There was a large variety of artwork in all medias and covering many different themes which made it very interesting. Artists offered works framed, unframed and original prints in the form of greeting cards. I have a couple of pictures I will have to upload once I find them. Several members did heritage paintings of local houses for a previous project which were featured and Colin Craig did an acrylic demo which was really interesting. I can hardly wait to see the finished painting. Sher Nasser won the Favorite Painting award for Chai Lady.

Mother's Day in the Park at Lions Park

It was freezing cold but we all had a blast at Lion's Park for Mother's Day in the Park. The kids did a great job painting with Jack Prasad, I think Jack inspired more than a few budding artists with his cool tips & tricks.

Of course I had to bring my mom being mothers day and all! She is also an artist and had a blast visiting with everyone and painting with the kids.

Family Portrait Commission

My client decided to add a couple additions to the portrait to make the portrait more personalized for her friend. She added the cross to the mother's lapel as they have a very strong faith and she wanted to emphasize this in the portrait. After many attempts to try to add the cross in without drawing too much attention, we decided to place it on his mother's lapel...the obvious choice in the end! Funny how things just find their place :)
